THE WRITERS

  • Greg Bates

Greg Bates is a rare find these days in the music business. A Nashville native, Greg is a multi-talented songwriter, producer, singer, and guitarist with a resumé that includes songs cut by Chase Rice, Justin Moore, Montgomery Gentry, Tyler Booth, and William Michael Morgan.

His time as an artist on Republic Nashville, highlighted by his Top 5 hit “Did It For the Girl”, gives Greg a perspective that few writers possess. His deep roots in traditional country music, as well as his love of hit, contemporary radio has led to amazing collaborations with some of the best young talent in Nashville today.

  • Mark Nesler

Mark Nesler comes from a rich legacy of Texas songwriters and has spent four decades crafting heartfelt country hits that honor tradition while embracing today’s sound. His first major success came in 1985 with Ed Bruce’s Top 20 hit “If It Ain’t Love.” Inspired early by his father’s love of bluegrass, Nesler began writing and performing as a child, eventually touring nationally with his band, Texas Tradition.

After years on the road, he signed a major publishing deal with MCA and joined Tracy Byrd’s band, contributing 19 songs to Byrd’s catalog. His songwriting credits include chart-toppers for Tim McGraw (“Just to See You Smile”), George Strait (“Go On,” “Living and Living Well”), Darryl Worley (“I Miss My Friend”), Billy Currington (“Let Me Down Easy”), and Josh Turner (“Time Is Love”), among many others.

Nesler also penned “Country Strong,” the title track of the feature film starring Gwyneth Paltrow. His recent hit with Luke Bryan, “Country On,” proves his continued relevance and impact. With songs recorded by legends and rising stars alike, Nesler remains one of Nashville’s most respected and successful songwriters.

  • Ray Fulcher

Ray Fulcher was born and raised in the small town of Harlem, Georgia, where he grew up on a steady mix of country’s greatest storytellers — from Alan Jackson and Keith Whitley to George Strait, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Eric Church. After seeing Church live at the Georgia Theatre while attending the University of Georgia, Ray was inspired to pick up a guitar at 21. That moment set him on a path that would eventually lead to Nashville.

Today, Ray is one of Nashville’s most sought-after songwriters and a rising artist in his own right. He’s co-written multiple chart-topping hits for Luke Combs, including the triple-platinum “When It Rains It Pours” and the five-week No. 1 “Even Though I’m Leaving.” With over 20 cuts across Combs’ albums, Ray’s fingerprints are all over some of modern country’s biggest records.

As an artist, Ray’s EP Somebody Like Me has racked up more than 16 million streams and features fan favorites like “Anything Like You Dance.” He’s toured nationally with Morgan Wallen, Chris Janson, Matt Stell, and joined Luke Combs on the What You See Is What You Get Tour, including a milestone two-night stand at Madison Square Garden.

Ray continues to write and release music while signed to Universal Music Publishing Group and River House Artists, helping shape the sound of today’s country music with every song.

  • Billy Montana

Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Billy Montana’s talent for tapping into powerful emotions in the songs he writes has led to a string of hits and awards for him and some of country music’s biggest stars.

Montana’s "Number 1" credits include Garth Brooks’ record-breaking single “More Than A Memory,” Sara Evans’ smash “Suds in the Bucket,” the Grammy-nominated “Bring On the Rain,” recorded by Jo Dee Messina with Tim McGraw, and his most recent chart topper "Hard To Love," the title cut from Curb recording artist Lee Brice's 2012 CD.

  • Mark Alan Springer

It comes as no big surprise to country music listen- ers that the writer of “Where Corn Don’t Grow,” “Two Sparrows in a Hurricane,” and “It Works” comes from a small Arkansas farm community. Mark Springer loved growing up on the farm but always wondered what else was out there. Years later, Springer enjoyed the success of “Where Corn Don’t Grow” a Top 5 hit by Travis Tritt, which deals with that very subject.

In 1993, Springer’s “Two Sparrows in a Hurricane,” recorded by Tanya Tucker, was named one of the Top 10 songs of 1993 by TNN’s Music City News songwriter awards show, and the song was also nominated as ACM’s “Song of the Year.” Springer later scored with the No. 1 hit “One Boy, One Girl” recorded by Collin Raye. Then Mark caught the ear of Kenny Chesney, who has recorded five of his tunes including the No. 1 hit “When I Close My Eyes.”

In 1997, Springer landed the No. 5 spot on Music Row magazine’s list of the year’s top songwriters with the hits “When I Close My Eyes,” “Where Corn Don’t Grow,” and “Thank God For Believers” No. 1, No. 3, and No. 1.

In 1998, Mark landed his fifth No. 1 song with Kenny Chesney’s version of “That’s Why I’m Here.” Later that year, Springer was named BMI’s Country Songwriter of the Year.
